Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta has made it clear that he wants Ethan Nwaneri to remain at the club this season amid growing transfer interest in the young midfielder, including reported interest from Galatasaray. Nwaneri’s future has become a talking point ahead of the new campaign, with reports linking the 19-year-old with a possible move away from the Emirates Stadium. Recent reports have indicated that Galatasaray are among the clubs interested in Nwaneri, while other European sides have also been linked with the Arsenal youngster. Arteta addressed Nwaneri’s situation during his pre-match press conference on Friday ahead of Arsenal’s Community Shield meeting with Manchester City. Asked whether he wanted the midfielder to remain at Arsenal this season, Arteta was quoted as saying by Arsenal's official webpage: “I want him to be at the club.” However, the Arsenal manager stressed that Nwaneri’s long-term development must also be considered, particularly regarding regular playing opportunities. Arteta explained that the key question was what would be best for the player in the long term, adding: “Ethan needs to play football.” The Arsenal boss further stated that Nwaneri could remain at the club if Arsenal could guarantee him the minutes he needs to continue developing. Arteta said: “If he stays here, it’s because we can guarantee that he can have those minutes.” He also warned that keeping Nwaneri without providing sufficient opportunities would not benefit either the player or the club. “Otherwise, it’s just something that is not good for anybody, I think,” Arteta added. Nwaneri spent the second half of last season on loan at Marseille, an experience Arteta previously described as an opportunity for the youngster to develop through a different environment.
