News broke last night that West Ham had finally reached an agreement with Celtic for midfielder Arne Engels.
The Belgian international was expected to leave the Hoops this summer, but the English Championship may not have been the expected destination.
Celtic stood firm in the January window, knocking back three bids from Premier League side Nottingham Forest with the final approach totalling £25m.
And Celtic will still rake in that fee and possibly more.
Initial reports claimed that the agreement reached on Thursday night totalled £22m, but Alan Nixon reports that the initial fee Celtic are due from West Ham is actually £25m.
And add-ons could take the deal to £30m, a transfer record in Scotland.
The structure of the add-ons is not detailed, but you’d imagine promotion at the first time of asking will see Celtic rake in a decent fee next summer.
There was some hope that Celtic could hold on to the midfielder until after the qualifiers against LASK, with the first leg kicking off next Wednesday, especially with Alistair Johnston injured.
However, the midfielder is expected to travel to London imminently to complete a move to the Iron.
Celtic have up until Tuesday night to register a replacement for the midfielder – if they sign one in time – for their Champions League squad.
