Newcastle United are close to making their fifth signing of the summer. Fabrizio Romano revealed that the Magpies are “closing in” on a deal to sign Benfica right-back Amar Dedic. The 23-year-old represented Bosnia and Herzegovina at this summer’s World Cup, making three appearances. The clubs are now believed to be finalising a fee, which is expected to be in the region of £25m. Deal Now in “Final Stages” Romano claims that the deal is now at the final stages, with personal terms already agreed between Dedic and Newcastle. “Dedic wants #NUFC move and agreement at final stages with Benfica for final fee over €30m £25.63m package,” Romano said on X. Dedic knows Matthias Jaissle well. He played for him at Red Bull Salzburg and FC Liefering – which is a big plus for Newcastle. He has only just returned after playing in the World Cup. Benfica played Hearts of Midlothian in a Europa League qualifier in Edinburgh last night. The Portuguese side won a penalty shootout after the game finished 1-1, with Dedic playing the full match. Newcastle will be hoping to get the deal tied up quickly while Benfica’s representatives are in the UK. Dedic’s contract runs until 2030, but Benfica’s president, Rui Costa, has admitted that the club will be selling players this summer. He played against Newcastle in the Champions League group stage, which the Magpies won 3-0. His best position is right-back, but he can also play left-back. Newcastle are in dire need of full-backs. Lewis Hall is coming back from injury, Tino Livramento has a calf injury, while Kieran Trippier and Emil Krafth left the club at the end of the season. That leaves 19-year-old Leo Shahar as the only fit right-back. Livramento did not travel to the La Manga training camp with the rest of the squad, and there has been no update on when he might return. That means that if Newcastle get this deal over the line, Dedic will probably go straight into the team to face Liverpool.
