Danny Hall reports… Sheffield United are eyeing a reunion with former defender Anel Ahmedhodzic this summer, The Star understands, as their search for centre-half reinforcements continues. United have considered a number of options at the back this summer rather than put all their eggs in the Harry Souttar basket and another player under consideration is former Blade Ahmedhodzic. The Bosnian played more than 100 times for the Blades after arriving from Malmo and helped them into the Premier League, before departing for the Netherlands in a cut-price deal after entering the final year of his Blades contract. He played 35 times last season in the league and in Europe before noises earlier this summer that he may be allowed to move on. Earlier today Fabrizio Romano suggested that Southampton were interested in bringing him back to the Championship. The Star has been told that Ahmedhodzic would be open to returning to Bramall Lane should a deal be struck. His two children were born in Sheffield and United supported him through a difficult period in his life when he effectively retired from international duty whilst in South Yorkshire. He - or rather his wife - set Unitedites’ tongues wagging on social media this week when she posted a video of the defender driving while Depeche Mode’s Just Can’t Get Enough played in the car. Unitedites adapted the song in tribute to Ahmedhodzic while he was at United, while his dad later posted a highlights reel from his time at the Blades on social media. The suggestion from the Netherlands is that he could be available for around £5m. If accurate, that would make him half Leicester’s asking price of Souttar and his profile is attractive to United. He is still only 27, suits the way the Blades want to play in terms of being on the front foot and has a good injury record too.
