But the defensive frailties of the early days of the McInnes reared their head once again, with Sterling left chasing at times. Emmanuel Fernandez – 5 The centre-back has yet to hit the heights of last season, and like Sterling struggled at times when the ball was turned over quickly by the visitors. Relied on Pandur to rescue him on a couple of occasions. Olwethu Makhanya – 4 Early days for the centre-back, and he certainly has been thrown in at the deep end. Lost Imaz and Conceicao a couple of times - notably when the later hit the post. Dan Neil – 6 Acted as an anchor to the midfielder to allow Nico Raskin and Thelo Aasgaard more freedom. Broke up play well and pinged the ball around well. He put in a disciplined display for the team in the engine room, but ran out of steam in the second half. Nico Raskin – 5 After his displays at the World Cup, it may be a surprise to some that Nico Raskin is still at the club to compete in these Europa League qualifiers. But he appears to have a a bit of ring rust as he adjusts to the McInnes era, and stuggled to make an impact on the game. Thelo Aasgaard – 4 Having earned the respect of fans and his boss by cutting his World Cup break short to battle for a starting spot, but at times he can drift out of games. Deployed on the left, the Norway international is being relied on to unlock defences, but struggled to show the crucial moments of magic in the attacking third. Daisuke Yokota – 7 The recruitment team at Ibrox has come under scrutiny this summer - with some critics claiming it has been quantity over quantity. However, the addition of Yokota from Hannover has improved the side on the flanks, and the 26-year-old looked bright throughout in a right wing-back role. Showed pace and put plenty of dangerous balls into the box - including the ball that won the penalty, allowing Shankland to open the scoring. But looked tired second half. Djeidi Gassama – 5 Gassama was given the nod ahead of Findlay Curtis and was deployed as the left wing-back. He showed flashes of trickery and was happy to do his defensive duties when called upon, but made no impact going forward. Lawrence Shankland – 4 The captain opened his account from the penalty spot, and was willing to drop back to link up play and attempt to unlock his teammates. However, he struggled to offer a threat in the attacking third from open play and passed up chances in the box at crucial moments. Appeared to be lacking confidence after a sluggish start to the season. Ryan Naderi – 4 Drafted back into the starting line-up after Youssef Chermiti's horror injury, it was a chance for the German frontman to convince Derek McInnes to give him a run up front - especially with the Light Blues eyeing another striker before the transfer window closes. He chased everything as he attempted to lead the press alongside Shankland, but couldn't take the chances that came his way. Substitues Ross McCrorie (Aasgaard, 45) – 2 Came on for the playmakers as Derek McInnes changed shape back to a 4-4-2 from a 3-5-2, playing at left-back. Rangers lost control of the game following the switch of formation.
