He said: “I remember the Champions League night against Leipzig, I watched it on TV on the couch at home. “You can feel it, you’re sitting at the TV, you can see the emotions in the stadium, and that’s what I’m here for.” That 2024 game clearly stayed with Baur as he considered the next step in his career. The midfielder arrives from Paderborn, where he had been playing in Germany, but the chance to experience big European nights at Celtic was clearly part of the attraction. Baur has also made clear that he wants to compete for trophies after making the move to Glasgow. He said: “It’s absolutely the right move. It’s a great club and I’ve heard incredible things about the fans. “Celtic are the champions. I want to win something, and I think I’m in the right place for it.” The atmosphere at Celtic Park was not the only factor in his decision. Baur also spoke to former Hoops winger Nicolas Kuhn before making the move, with the pair sharing the same agency. He said: “I’m in the same agency as Nicolas Kuhn so I called him to ask a couple of questions and he was so positive. He said, if you have the chance, just do it.” Now Baur will get the chance to experience those European nights for himself rather than watching from his sofa. He has already completed a full pre-season in Germany and says he is ready to go, giving Martin O’Neill the option of involving him quickly.
