Everton’s plans to offload Tim Iroegbunam have been dashed by injury. Hull City had targeted the midfielder, who was a used as a squad player by David Moyes’ side last season after making 31 mostly substitute appearances. The Premier League newcomers were understood to have tabled a bid in the region of £15 million for Iroegbunam, now in the final year of his contract. Sergej Jakirovic confirmed his club’s interest earlier this week and believed there had been ‘progress’ in a move to bring him to the KCOM Stadium. But a deal now appears unlikely after the 23-year-old suffered an injury in the Blues’ friendly defeat at Stuttgart last weekend that is worse than first feared. Iroegbunam picked up a suspected hamstring problem in the 3-1 reversal at the MHP Arena which is expected to lead to a spell on the sidelines. Hull Live claim that the Tigers have subsequently shelved their interest in the Birmingham-born player amid concerns that he suffered a long-term injury. Sources close to Iroegbunam are said to have dismissed those suggestions and believe that he will be available again for Everton in a matter of weeks. However there is an acceptance that the deal with Hull is now off the table, which leaves his future at Hill Dickinson Stadium facing growing uncertainty. The summer arrivals of Christian Norgaard and Hayden Hackney have already pushed Iroegbunam further down Everton’s midfield pecking order.
