For the second summer in a row, Igor Paixao has found himself linked with Leeds United. For the Whites, last summer ended in heartbreak regarding Paixao. The Brazilian winger opted to move to Marseille instead of Leeds, with the prospect of playing in the Champions League just too good to turn down for the then Feyenoord player. Fast forward a year and Marseille are in a financial mess, which sees the French giants considering offers for each and every one of their players. Leeds have reignited their interest in Paixao as a result. Now, it appears that Leeds have a massive bargaining chip up their sleeve, which could ultimately see Paixao end up in West Yorkshire. Marseille ‘pressing’ to sign Lucas Perri By now, it is apparent that Lucas Perri will leave Leeds this summer. The recent arrival of James Trafford all but confirmed that Perri will never have another crack at being our number one. Torino appeared as though they were going to sign the Brazilian, according to previous reports. However, according to journalist Matteo Moretto, Marseille are “pressing” to sign Perri. Torino are said to have a baseline agreement with Perri, but have not sealed the deal completley. This has opened the door for Marseille to swoop in and potentially sign the ‘keeper. The French outfit have now ramped up their efforts to sign Perri and are hopeful of closing a deal which would see Perri return to France, just one year after leaving Lyon to sign for Leeds for £15.6million. Leeds can use Lucas Perri as leverage in potential Igor Paixao deal A report from journalist Santi Aouna a couple of days ago suggests that Marseille want around £42.7million for Paixao. Surely after paying £40million for Trafford and £34million for Tarik Muharemovic, you would imagine this is a step too far for Leeds. However, the 49ers now have Perri as a potential bargaining chip up their sleeve. Even if the potential deals for Paixao and Perri are not inherently linked, surely we can use our out-of-favour goalkeeper to our benefit in negotiations with Marseille. You would imagine Torino would be desperate not to lose out on Perri now. This is something we can use to our advantage. If Marseille refuse to lower their asking price for Paixao, we can threaten to let Perri join Torino instead of letting him return to France. As well as this, there’s now the obvious possibility that we could offer Perri plus cash for Paixao. Having these options certainly cannot harm our chances of finally signing the winger this summer. I’m sure the 49ers are considering all these options as they attempt to bring in yet another dream signing.
