Reiss Nelson’s move to West Ham could be off, as the Hammers have doubts over the move. West Ham had apparently all but agreed to sign Reiss Nelson; personal terms were reportedly agreed, according to Claret & Hugh, a deal to bring him to East London was 90% done. The BBC is reporting a fee of £3 million is/was close to being agreed. However, the latest from C&H suggests the Hammers have backed away from a move for Nelson due to his injury record. I personally don’t think his injury record is that horrific; on average, over his seven years as a senior, Nelson has missed 14 matches a season. This obviously isn’t ideal, and Solomon, who has just signed, has also had his injury problems in the past, so it would make sense to sign someone more reliable. I believe England U20 international Amario Cozier-Duberry would be a brilliant option for us. The former Arsenal academy man, who is currently at Brighton, had a very impressive season on loan at Bolton Wanderers in League One last season. In 41 appearances for the Trotters last season, he scored 10 goals and provided 13 assists as they won promotion back to the Championship through the play-offs. Cozier-Duberry is a right-winger who likes to come inside, attack space, beat a man, score goals, and create chances. However, he is also more than capable of playing on the left. The West Ham squad is currently missing pace. Jarrod Bowen and Manor Solomon are quick enough, but since losing Summerville and Adama, we don’t have anyone with that blistering pace. Amario Cozier-Duberry has that. While I think Nelson would be a very decent player in the Championship, his speed is in a similar category to Solomon and Bowen. We need someone with game-changing pace, someone with something different. The 21-year-old has had a season in the Championship; he spent the 24/25 season on loan at Blackburn Rovers. He failed to make an impact, only scoring 1 goal in less than 800 minutes. I could see why this would put the Hammers off from making a move; we’re looking for players that will be good enough to play in the Premier League. There’s a big chance Cozier-Duberry won’t be that, but there’s also a good chance he will. I personally think he’s worth the risk for the right price.
