Matthias Jaissle 'scared' of breaking Premier League rules at Newcastle United - but fans will love it Matthias Jaissle has discussed his touchline conduct heading into the new season with Newcastle United. Matthias Jaissle will take to the St James’ Park touchline for the first time as Newcastle United head coach this weekend. The 38-year-old has already developed a reputation in football as being particularly animated and passionate on the touchline. He is also prone to leaving his technical area, something that was on full show during Newcastle’s recent friendly match at Valencia in which several big calls were made by the officials. And if that’s how Jaissle acts during a friendly match, just how will he react to being on the touchline in a high-stakes Premier League match? The Gazette has launched a WhatsApp NUFC channel to bring the latest news, analysis and team & injury updates directly to your phone. Simply click this link to join our NUFC WhatsApp channel. Premier League rules dictate that coaching staff must remain in the designated technical area while the match is ongoing. A recent rule change also states that only one person can stand at the front of the technical area at any one time. Former Newcastle assistant manager Jason Tindall theorised that rule may have been introduced as a result of his willingness to stand alongside Eddie Howe on the touchline. But now there is a new manager in town and one that is sure to wear his heart on his sleeve during matches. In fact, one of the first questions Jaissle asked upon arriving at the club was how many yellow cards he was able to receive before getting a touchline ban. Three is the answer to that question with Jaissle admitting he will have to ‘respect’ his technical area more now he has to abide by Premier League rules. “I will not change my style, because that's my personality; on the touchline I'm emotional, but I need to respect a bit more the box,” Jaissle smirked. “I'm a bit scared (of being punished), I hope in the beginning the referees can close [their eyes] maybe here and there a little! “I need to learn that. I had a long line, I would say, in Saudi Arabia [at Al Ahli], so I think the GPS was quite high!”
