Aston Villa hit by double injury blow ahead of Premier League season
Unai Emery’s plans for the opener at Brighton have been impacted.
Villa have been hit by a double injury blow with Brian Madjo and Joao Gomes both set to miss the start of the season.
Madjo, who scored his first senior goal in his first competitive start for the club against Paris Saint-Germain in the European Super Cup, is expected to be absent until September.
Gomes, meanwhile, could miss up to a month with a calf injury during the defeat in Salzburg.
The news is a big blow for boss Unai Emery, just over a week before Villa begin their Premier League season at Brighton.
Both players would have been likely to start the match but Emery will now be forced into a rethink.
Villa already have several injury problems before the league season has even begun.
Gomes was signed last month from Wolves after Amadou Onana suffered a knee injury during the World Cup which is likely to keep him out for most of the campaign.
Record signing Johan Manzambi is also expected to miss the start of the season, also with a knee issue picked up during the tournament.
