Central midfielder Freddie Potts has completed a permanent move to Belgian Pro League runners-up Club Brugge.
The son of former Hammer and Academy coach Steve and bother of Danny, who also represented West Ham, today completed a transfer through to be worth in the region of £10million to the club.
"Freddie Potts has signed a contract until 2030 with Blauw-Zwart," read a statement published by his new club. "The 22-year-old English defensive midfielder makes the switch from West Ham United.
"Potts will play in the number 8 shirt. Welcome to the club, Freddie!"
Potts, who becomes the fifth Englishman to sign a contract with Club Brugge made a total of 27 first team appearances for West Ham, who he first joined as a six-year-old. He had previously spent time on loan at Wycombe Wanderers and Portsmouth, who West Ham face in the Carabao Cup in Stratford this coming weekend.
And speaking in a parting message via West Ham's website, he admitted that it would be tough to leave east London.
"For the past 16 years, West Ham has been all I’ve ever known," he said. "It’s always been far more than just a club, it’s become my home.
"As a lifelong West Ham fan, I grew up walking through Upton Park dreaming of one day wearing the shirt. To have gone on and played in the Premier League is something I could only ever have dreamt of as a kid.
"I grew not only as a player but as a man and to make my full league debut in front of you all, at home, was a feeling that will stay with me forever - and I’m beyond grateful for Nuno giving me that opportunity.
"Every time I wore that shirt, I gave everything, it ultimately filled me with immense pride - and I hope I did you all proud too.
