CELTIC have until just before 11pm this evening to meet the UEFA signing deadline before the Champions League qualifiers against LASK.
The Hoops are due to play the Austrians in the first leg of the winner-takes-all £40million shoot-out at Parkhead on Wednesday with the return six days later.
There is a safety net for Martin O’Neill with two additional players allowed to join the squad 24 hours before the first game.
However, the Irishman is keen to get recruits in as swiftly as possible with Egyptian World Cup winger Haissem Hassan joining from Real Oviedo in a deal that could rise to £9million, as CQN reported last night.
The wide Bhoy joins Danish international striker Kasper Hogh, from Bodo/Glimt, and Colombian frontman Camilo Duran, from Qarabag, as the champions’ summer spending soared into the £26million bracket.
Now the attention turns to SC Paderborn midfielder Mika Baur following protracted negotiations between both clubs.
Celtic offered £4million for the 22-year-old playmaker, but the German club knocked it back immediately.
However, it now looks as though a solution has been found with a transfer fee of somewhere in the £7million bracket, with add-ons, now agreed, according to Get German Football News.
The Bundesliga outfit’s head coach Ralf Kettemann told the media outlet yesterday: “The transfer isn’t done yet, but I have to assume that it will happen.
“I have to prepare for it. It’s not as if it wasn’t a live issue before today.
“It hurts both from a sporting and personal perspective. Every player who leaves us hurts.”
It appears to be a case of the paperwork being rubberstamped assuming there are no issues with a medical for the German Under-21 international.
Also on his way to Parkhead is 18-year-old Chelsea left-back Landon Emenalo on a season-long loan deal, according to a report in the Daily Record.
The youngster is seen as the ideal cover for Kieran Tierney after the champions passed up the opportunity to sign Marcelo Saracchi on a permanent deal after the Uruguayan’s impressive temporary transfer stint from Boca Juniors.
It’s believed Emenalo has already been given a VIP tour of the Hoops’ training HQ in Lennoxtown as well as Celtic Park.
The highly-rated defender has already featured in three pre-season friendlies under new boss Xabi Alonso.
The Hoops are also believed to be stepping up their interest in Canada World Cup star Niko Sigur, of Hajduk Split, who has been identified as an option for a defensive midfield position, along with Torino’s Gvidas Gineitis.
