Martin O’Neill has welcomed Haissem Hassan to Celtic after the Egyptian international became the club’s third signing of the summer. O’Neill was absent from the touchline on Sunday as Celtic hammered Kilmarnock 5-1 at Rugby Park, with the manager continuing his recovery after undergoing a small procedure in hospital. He was still able to see the squad off at the team hotel before they travelled to Ayrshire, leaving assistant Shaun Maloney to take charge of proceedings from there. O’Neill has now given his verdict on Hassan after Celtic officially unveiled the winger. The 24-year-old adds another option to an attacking line alongside Camilo Duran and Kasper Hogh. O’Neill believes Hassan has the quality and experience to make an impact in Glasgow, particularly with Celtic needing more attacking options for the challenges ahead. He said (Celtic Player): “We are delighted to bring Haissem to Celtic and I think the club has done really well to secure a player of such quality, with a number of other clubs interested in him. “He is someone who I think has the ability and experience to do very well for us, performing at a high level in domestic and international football. “I know he is excited about being with us and I am sure our fans will enjoy the energy and attacking intent which Haissem will bring to matches. I hope he will become a very important member of our squad going forward.” The signing is a welcome one for O’Neill, who has already spoken publicly about Celtic’s need to add quality ahead of their Champions League play-off against Austrian champions LASK. Hassan arrives having already shown what he can offer on the international stage. He caused Argentina problems at the World Cup as Egypt pushed them all the way, with Hassan assisting their second goal and creating havoc for the opposing backline. That sort of direct threat is exactly what Celtic need more of. O’Neill has made no secret of wanting quality added to his squad, and Hassan gives him another player capable of making things happen in the final third. There could be further movement shortly. Mika Baur’s arrival is expected to be wrapped up soon, with O’Neill keen to get new faces through the door and settled before the European tie. Celtic host LASK in the first leg at Parkhead on Wednesday, August 19. Meanwhile, 18-year-old Chelsea prospect Landon Emenalo has been at Lennoxtown and shown around the facilities amid talks over a move to the Scottish champions. The teenager would provide cover for Kieran Tierney; an area Celtic will need to manage carefully once the fixture schedule begins to pile up. Hassan, though, is through the door now.
