Matthias Jaissle makes Dan Burn decision after Sven Botman's Newcastle nightmare in pre-season The Magpies are a team playing with next to no confidence defensively after NINE goal leak Newcastle United chief Matthias Jaissle has hinted that Dan Burn is on course to walk straight back into the Toon's starting XI - despite missing a month of pre-season. The Blyth battler is behind in terms of match fitness and is yet to appear in any warm-up games but after calling a holiday to Canada short after his World Cup break, the 6ft 7in looks an easy choice in a Toon defence that has leaked NINE goals in four friendly games, including games against Gateshead and Bristol City. With Sven Botman struggling throughout the summer, and enduring another mistake at Murrayfield last night in the 3-1 defeat against Everton, Burn could partner Malick Thiaw in the heart of defence against Liverpool. When asked about Burn returning to the team, Jaissle told Chronicle Live: "He doesn't become important; he is important already. He's also a national team player with a lot of experience, a leader. "I just had a chat with him in his first training, so I'm happy that he's back. "Now we are eventually complete with national team players but we have some positions we need to adjust." With Newcastle in a frantic rush to sign players in time for the Liverpool game and the likes of Burn and other World Cup stars still playing catch-up fitness wise, Jaissle admits United won't be close to their peak when they start the Premier League season. Jaissle, himself, has only been working with the squad properly for a week after taking over late in the summer preparations after Eddie Howe's departure. The former Al-Alhi boss said: “We cannot be at our peak [against Liverpool], this is clear. We have just been working for a couple of days together, and Liverpool is already next week now. “We use every day in the best possible way, that’s the only thing we can control to make progress. "Then, it will be the same with the transfer market.
