(WNDU) - The mayor of Hammond says the Chicago Bears have informed him the team plans to make an announcement Thursday, though he did not say what the announcement would cover. Mayor Tom McDermott confirmed the news Wednesday following a news conference unrelated to the Bears’ potential move to Hammond. McDermott told NBC Chicago the Bears told him “there would be an announcement [Thursday],” but he was not informed on what exactly the announcement was about. The Bears have not yet publicly said any announcement is coming. “I know about it as much about it as you all, but I was told from the Bears that there will be an announcement tomorrow,” McDermott said. “So, I mean, I’m not the kind of guy that would call somebody and tell them, ‘Hey, I’m going to get some bad news out tomorrow.’ But maybe, I’m not presuming anything. I’m hopeful it’s going to be good news.” In June, the Chicago Bears’ Board of Directors voted to advance the stadium development project in Hammond. The news comes as the Bears aim to make a decision on where to build their new stadium, with Hammond being considered as a main location for the project.
