The Patriots swapped one running back for another in a roster move Wednesday. Rookie running back Myles Montgomery was waived with an injury designation. If the undrafted free agent passes through waivers unclaimed, then he would revert to injured reserve. The Patriots replaced Montgomery on the roster by signing Hasaan Haskins. The team also worked out running backs JaMycal Hasty, Shane Watts and Leshon Williams. Haskins, 26, was selected in the fourth round of the 2022 NFL Draft out of Michigan by the Titans while Mike Vrabel was head coach. The 6-foot-2, 228-pound back has 76 career carries for 229 yards with two touchdowns and 18 catches for 119 yards with one score in three seasons with the Titans and Chargers. Montgomery, 23, went undrafted out of UCF. He also spent time at the University of Cincinnati. He was competing for a roster spot with Terrell Jennings, Lan Larison and Jam Miller behind Rhamondre Stevenson and TreVeyon Henderson. Montgomery saw the least amount of work of the six running backs through the first three weeks of training camp. The Patriots play the Colts in their preseason opener on Thursday at Gillette Stadium. Expect Jennings, Larison and Miller to see significant work.
