Hull City transfer latest: Tigers sign history-making international defender HULL CITY have sealed the signing of history-making Australian international defender Lucas Herrington from Major League Soccer side Colorado Rapids for an undisclosed fee. The 18-year-old has agreed a five-year deal with the Tigers and has become the club’s ninth summer arrival. Some reports suggest Hull have paid an £11million fee with £3.7m more in add-ons and a 15 per cent sell-on clause. The centre-back became the youngest player to start a World Cup match for Australia in the Socceroos’ group-stage game against Paraguay. Herrington also started their round of 32 fixture against Egypt – his sixth and most recent cap. The 6ft 4in defender made his senior debut for hometown club Brisbane Roar, having come through their academy, in December 2024, aged 17. After featuring 29 times for the Lions, he moved across to the States to join Colorado ahead of the 2026 MLS campaign. His performances saw him named in 2026 MLS All-Stars team. Before becoming a senior Australia international, Herrington helped his nation win their first AFC Under-20 Asian Cup in 2025 and earned a bronze medal at the 2024 ASEAN Under-19 Boys Championship. On moving to East Yorkshire, Herrington said: "I’m buzzing to be here. It’s a great project and a great club to be a part of. I’m so excited to be here. "The opportunity to play in the Premier League, one of the best leagues in the world, is a dream come true. "I’ve woken up at all hours in the morning in Australia to watch these games. To be a part of it is so special. "To hear from the club and coaching staff has been so exciting for me. "I spoke to Jacko (Jackson Irvine), and he said very good things about the club and the area. He loved his time here. "To hear that from him, after being with him at the World Cup, gave me a sense of calmness. "It was a dream come true to represent my country at the World Cup – something I had always wanted to do. To achieve it at 18 was so special and to have my family in the stands meant everything to me."
