Round-up: Hull City smash transfer record again as departing Sheffield United star seals 'dream' move HULL CITY have smashed their transfer record for the second time in a matter of weeks after recruiting Senegalese international defender Nobel Mendy in a £20million-plus deal. The successful move for the Rayo Vallecano centre-half follows on from the £20m capture of Greek goalkeeper Konstantinos Tzolakis earlier this month. Mendy is City's eighth signing of an increasingly busy summer window and takes their overall spending thus far to not shy of the £50m mark, with more new arrivals to come. The 21-year-old has penned a five-year deal until the summer of 2031, with a club option of a further year. A strong and pacey centre-back, Mendy made 28 outings during his only season with Rayo. He formerly played for Real Betis and Paris FC and earned his sole Senegal cap to date in March 2026. Mendy said: "I am a very athletic player, and I am a defender at heart. I also really enjoy the game and coming out from the back cleanly and aggressively when needed. "I have wanted to play in the Premier League since I was little, so it’s a great challenge to face and I am ready for it." Meanwhile, Gus Hamer has spoken of his delight after making his dream move back to Coventry City from Sheffield United. The midfielder, 29, left the Sky Blues in the summer of 2023 but he has now returned to the Midlands in a deal worth around £6million. Hamer had recently entered the final year of his contract at United. He said: "To go to the Premier League with Coventry was something I always dreamt of so when the club came back in for me, it was very special so I’m very happy." Young Sheffield Wednesday forward Charlie McNeill is set to join Crewe Alexandra on loan.
