Red Sox Named Suitor for $341M Star, but They Shouldn’t Be for Franklin Arias Reason | NESN

The Boston Red Sox's interest in a shortstop over the past year or so has been rather interesting for many reasons. Not only do the Red Sox already have a veteran at shortstop in Trevor Story, but they have one of the best prospects in Major League Baseball in Franklin Arias.
Arias, who many figure will be one of the better players in baseball once he gets settled into the league, has absolutely torn up the minor leagues. There's even a scenario in which he could be called up this year if the Red Sox need him.
However, the interest in shortstops has already been well reported, as Boston has shown interest in Elly De La Cruz and others over the past few months. A recent suggestion also had them in the mix for another superstar shortstop, Francisco Lindor.
Lindor, who is still an elite player, would be a huge addition to any contending team this winter.
“The New York Mets find themselves in a bit of a weird spot with Francisco Lindor. On one hand, he's still a very good player (no matter what Mets fans might want to tell you), and trading him away will undoubtedly make the Mets worse in the short term.
“On the other hand, Lindor's contract is massive, he's likely going to steadily decline over the course of the next half-decade and his relationship with Juan Soto is a strange one at best. Further complicating the issue, Lindor has 10-and-5 rights, meaning he has full veto power even if the Mets wanted to trade him. If he wants to remain in New York, there's nothing they can do,” Zachary Rotman wrote.
Trading for a player like Lindor during the offseason would be an all-in move for the Red Sox.
However, it could also hurt Arias' development.
Considering the Red Sox have a real opportunity to win a World Series in the near future, it's not crazy to say they should go with the veteran option in Lindor. That's ultimately something the front office will have to figure out.
