Nottingham Forest’s chances of signing Givairo Read have been handed another boost as AS Roma are now out of the race.
De Telegraaf report that the Italian side have withdrawn their interest in the 20-year-old to instead pursue Atletico Madrid’s Nahuel Molina.
Roma Walk Away
Sport Witness covered a report yesterday explaining that Roma were on the verge of walking away in favour of a deal for Molina this summer. De Telegraaf now say that is happening.
According to their information, Roma have decided enough is enough after failing to reach an agreement with the Rotterdam club. They are now shifting their focus to Molina.
The Argentine is expected to cost a maximum of €17m, making him a cheaper alternative to Read.
Multiple sources covering withdrawal
This is backed up by ESPN, who report that Feyenoord’s €25m asking price for Read was already considered high. The Italians then offered €29m but Feyenoord would not cooperate in the deal. So, they have no moved on to a cheaper alternative.
The good news for Nottingham Forest is that the path is now clear for themselves. De Telegraaf report that they were the first club to make an offer for Givairo Read this summer.
Initially these offers were in the region of €25m. Roma’s latest could have risen to €29m with add-ons but Feyenoord rejected that proposal as well.
Now they’ve moved on, leaving Nottingham Forest as the only suitors. Whether they are willing to go beyond that figure, remains to be seen.
Nottingham Forest €8m short of valuation
ESPN report that Roma believed Feyenoord would like €33m for Read this summer. So, Nottingham Forest, as it stands, are €8m short of that valuation.
The question is whether they believe the youngster is worth such a fee, which would put him firmly in the top 20 most expensive right-backs of all time.
That’s yet to be determined but the path is now clearer, with Roma stepping aside and focusing their efforts elsewhere.
