The new Gers boss has failed to register victory in three competitive matches since moving from Hearts in the summer. The 2-1 home defeat to Hibernian on Sunday left the Light Blues five points behind William Hill Premiership leaders Celtic and St Mirren after two fixtures and the defeat came at an extra cost. The Light Blues confirmed on Tuesday that 22-year-old Portuguese striker Youssef Chermiti – reportedly subject to a failed bid from Galatasaray for a club record fee of £22million – “will be out of action for a significant period of time” after picking up an ACL injury while left-back Tuur Rommens, in the worst case scenario, could be out for two months with the groin strain. Ahead of the second leg of the Europa League qualifier against the Polish side, where Rangers look to claw back a 2-1 deficit, the former Rangers midfielder said: “Winning on Sunday does not mean that everything is rosy in the garden, but we could all be doing with a win. “Supporters could do with it and players could do with it. “There is nothing better than getting that encouragement and confidence into the supporters by getting a win. We have got work to do, but I think the tie is finely poised. “I thought we were decent in Poland for long spells. We have got to understand that, as I said last week, we played a part in our own downfall with the goal against us. “If we can tighten up on that side, I feel we have got the game and performance in us to get through the tie. “If we can get through it, everybody starts to feel better about themselves. “That is the plan. It is my job, and the players’ job, to keep ourselves positive. “There are a lot of new faces in the building and a lot of players training and playing with motivation, as they should do at Rangers. Hopefully we can get the result tomorrow night, which would help.”
