Nottingham Forest given major transfer boost as club pulls out of move

Nottingham Forest have been given a major boost in their pursuit of Givairo Read after Roma pulled out of the chase to sign the defender this summer. Reports in De Telegraaf say that the Italian side have abandoned their quest for the right-back by pursuing Nahuel Molina of Atletico Madrid. Roma had been in talks with Feyenoord over a deal for the Dutch international, but could not reach a deal for the 20-year-old and have now decided to look elsewhere. The Dutch side were seeking a fee of €25m and while Roma offered €29m, although a chunk of that was add-ons, they still couldn't make a breakthrough. That has now left Forest as the frontrunners for his signature amid claims they were the first club to make their move for Feyenoord's prized asset this summer. ESPN now claims Feyenoord are seeking €33m, meaning Forest are some way off matching their demands, having initially offered £25m themselves. The player himself has admitted he is open to offers this summer, amid claims that Forest have already agreed a five-year deal with Read. He told Voetbal International in the Netherlands that he hopes to have the chance to consider the decision himself. He said: “It’s not that I think I have to leave now because I’ve learned all I can here, that is certainly not the case. “I still have an awful lot to learn, and I’ve only just turned 20. Having said that, I want to consider a transfer if that opportunity arises. You never know how many chances you get in life. “If I don’t leave, then I will stay, and I just want to play to win the title here. After that, the Dutch national team is the next step, I hope.”
