The New York Giants are receiving some outrageous hype ahead of the 2026 NFL season. New York has plenty of optimism now that John Harbaugh is running the organization. One Giants rookie could be the key to unlocking the entire defense if he reaches his full potential in 2026.
ESPN's Jordan Raanan highlighted one incredible play that Arvell Reese made during a recent training camp practice.
“Arvell Reese had a ridiculous INT on Tuesday. He raced out to the flat and got his hand on a pass intended for a WR at the front pylon. It hit the back of his hand, went in the air and Reese tipped it to himself,” Raanan wrote. “The rookie's been a star at camp. Absolute freak of an athlete.”
New York used the fifth overall pick on Reese, showing just how confident they are in the young defender. Reese is capable of playing both edge rusher and off-ball linebacker. The Giants plan to use him as an off-ball linebacker, in part to make use of his ridiculous coverage skills.
The regular season is still a month away, but defensive coordinator Dennard Wilson is already extremely impressed with Reese.
“He's been impressive,” Wilson said. “Not to put too much on the kid's plate being a rookie, but he's picked up everything from defensive structure, the calls, the adjustments. And he's running around and playing fast and physical. The thing I love about him is if he messes up, he's not a repeat mistake offender. So he'll correct his mistake, learn from it, and if he makes a mistake it's something that he doesn't know. It has been outstanding to watch this young man grow.”
Reese joins a stacked defense alongside Brian Burns, Abdul Carter, and a host of other star players.
The Giants will clearly be relying heavily on their defense this fall. Hopefully they are up to the challenge of supporting Jaxson Dart and the New York offense.
