The Pompey head coach insisted he’s been impressed by the efforts of the 25-year-old in pre-season, since featuring in the 1-1 draw at Bristol Rovers last month. Mousinho explained he’s assessed Appiah in pre-season against his current options and the challenges the Championship offers. And the outcome is set to be a parting of ways, ahead of this weekend’s EFL curtain-raiser in the Carabao Cup at West Ham. Mousinho told The News: ‘I need to catch up with the triallist. He’s been really good since he came in, but we probably don’t have the squad space at the moment to take him on. ‘He’s hopefully in a really good position with what we’ve given him, in terms of fitness and in terms of exposure. He’s had both. ‘We wanted to have a good look at him and see if he could affect what we’re doing here. ‘It’s a big ask with everything we’ve got here and the demands of the Championship - but he’s been a credit to himself.’
