Kjartan Mar Kjartansson set for Aberdeen transfer exit as six-figure deal agreed with ex Pittodrie manager target The Icelandic youngster has made just nine appearances for the Dons since his arrival from Stjarnan 12 months ago SK Brann are closing in on a six-figure deal for Aberdeen midfielder Kjartan Mar Kjartansson. Former Dons managerial target Eirik Horneland wants to land their Icelandic under-21 international. The Norwegian side has had the 20–year-old on their radar for several months. Horneland has since returned to his former club and decided to push the button on a deal. He is hopeful of fighting off offers from teams in Sweden, Denmark and Norwegian rivals. Kjartansson has made it clear that he is at a stage of his career where he feels he needs to play. He has struggled for game time at Aberdeen under Jimmy Thelin and now Stephen Robinson. Kjartansson would prefer a clean break to get his career going again. Aberdeen signed him from Stjarnan and will look to make a significant profit on the initial fee they paid, with a string of strong add-ons also included. Horneland was Aberdeen’s initial managerial target after Jimmy Thelin left last season. They held talks and agreed terms but then personal reasons delayed him taking the job. The Dons felt they couldn’t delay any longer and headhunted Stephen Robinson from St Mirren. Kjartansson looks set to join Dimitar Mitov going out the Pittodrie exit door, with the Bulgarian having completed his medical with St Pauli this morning. The Germans have agreed a £450,000 fee with the Dons for their keeper, while the Bulgarian international agreeing a three-year-deal with the Hamburg side.
