Tottenham Hotspur have rejected the idea of signing Napoli goalkeeper Vanja Milinkovic-Savic after he was offered in a potential swap deal with Guglielmo Vicario. Corriere dello Sport report on the rejection today. They state that Tottenham outright rejected any proposal including the 29-year-old goalkeeper. Vicario still a target The newspaper first explains that Guglielmo Vicario remains a potential target for several Italian clubs. Juventus are at the top of that list, with their efforts to sign a new goalkeeper having faced several setbacks already this summer. Vicario is now considered the ready alternative. He has been lined up via a loan deal with an option to buy for around €15m. There is confidence a deal can be done given he is not in Roberto De Zerbi’s plans moving forwards. Vicario would also like to return to Italy. Napoli are an interested party. They have already made proposals to Tottenham, including a potential swap deal involving Vanja Milinkovic-Savic. This was outright rejected by Tottenham. They were simply uninterested in the Serbian and snubbed the proposal. Tottenham rejection Why that is the case, isn’t made clear. The obvious answer is that Tottenham simply didn’t consider Vanja Milinkovic-Savic to be good enough for their new number one. There is also the prospect that they would prefer to sell Vicario and recover the funds from a sale rather than sanctioning a swap deal. That would certainly help their finances more given the money they have spent transforming the squad so far. Vicario cost €18.5m three years ago and he is currently valued at that figure as well. So, a sale would considerably aid the books at this moment in time, certainly more than a direct swap deal would. Either way, the proposal from Napoli was rejected outright and Napoli need a different plan.
