Tottenham goalkeeper Guglielmo Vicario has been linked with a return to Serie A. Tottenham Hotspur’s recruitment this summer have been a breath of fresh air. Six new players have arrived to bolster a squad that narrowly escaped relegation last term. Roberto De Zerbi recently admitted that the North London club have completed 60% of their business. He also revealed his side are working on “another bomba”. There are some players expected to depart the club in the next few weeks. Guglielmo Vicario is one of those. Since arriving from Empoli in the summer of 2023, Guglielmo Vicario has not managed to convince the Tottenham chiefs and the fans that he can become the club’s long-term goalkeeper. The 29-year-old was heavily linked with a move to Inter Milan since midway through last season. However, those links calmed down by the start of June, opening the door for other clubs to enter the race. Juventus and Napoli entered the frame for Vicario’s signature, but for well over the past few weeks, the former have been trying to find an agreement for the Tottenham goalkeeper. Juventus boss Luciano Spalletti has reportedly held talks with the Italian international, who wants to end his three-year stay in North London. Tottenham reject swap deal for Napoli goalkeeper According to Italian newspaper Corriere dello Sport (h/t Sport Witness), Tottenham have rebuffed the idea of signing Napoli goalkeeper Vanja Milinkovic-Savic after he was offered in a potential swap deal with Vicario. The proposal was outright rejected by the North London club, with the Spurs chiefs simply uninterested in the big Serb. The 2.02m Vanja Milinkovic-Savic established himself as a reliable goalkeeper for Torino, making 144 appearances. He moved to Napoli on loan with a conditional obligation to buy last summer, and the shot-stopper did well across 38 games in all competitions. However, Napoli have been looking for an upgrade on the 29-year-old and proposed a swap deal with Vicario, which Tottenham rejected. This is perhaps due to the N17 bosses not viewing Milinkovic-Savic as up to the standards of being the club’s No.1. Also, they prefer to sell Vicario and recover the funds from a sale rather than sanctioning a swap deal. A sale would significantly balance their books, given the money that has been spent this summer to restructure the broken squad. Interestingly, Tottenham have changed their stance on Vicario lately. They are now reportedly open to a loan deal instead of a straight sale, making it easier for Juventus to sign the Italian. The North Londoners’ change in stance also shows how desperate they are to get rid of the 29-year-old’s wages.
