Some fresh St James’ Park changes and upgrades were on show as Matthias Jaissle was unveiled as the new Newcastle United head coach. Jaissle hailed the ‘amazing stadium’ in his first press conference on home soil after returning from a pre-season training camp in Spain. He then made his way to the new pitch at St James’ Park for photos. In addition to the new pitch upgrade over the summer, there are also three new big screens at St James’ Park. New screens in the Strawberry Corner and on the Milburn Stand have been installed while the screen on the side of the Leazes Stand has been taken down and upgraded with a new one. Those are just a few of the upgrades on show that supporters will get to experience themselves ahead of this weekend’s friendly matches against Strasbourg and Bayer Leverkusen at St James’ Park. The costs of the total upgrades at St James’ Park are said to be in excess of £10million, with the majority of that investment being into the new pitch. A week later, Newcastle will open their Premier League season at home to Liverpool. “It's a challenge, a big challenge, always when there's a transition period, but it's not time to complain,” he said. “It doesn't make sense to see the negative things, we want to see the chance in that situation and that's our approach from day one now. “We're here to do our best job, we want to support the players, the current squad. There will be adjustments definitely to see in the upcoming days, weeks, but for now it's only focused on the daily work, on the work we can influence and that's all that matters now.” When asked how he can make St James’ Park a fortress for Newcastle once again, Jaissle added: “First of all, we're really much looking forward towards the weekend, finally being here, I had two days ago already a tour, an amazing stadium, I can't wait to see the stadium full with our own crowd. “So that's already a good set-up, now the two friendly matches on the weekend, but again the approach is step-by-step. “We're going in the right direction, I'm pretty sure, I'm really pleased with what I saw so far from the guys, there's a huge commitment, and that's the most important thing.” Your next Newcastle United read: Matthias Jaissle social media post sparks NUFC supporter frenzy
