Everton may soon have to decide how serious their interest in Mauro Icardi really is amid reports that Olympiacos have made a move for the free-agent striker. The Toffees have been linked with the 33-year-old since their unsuccessful deadline-day search for another centre-forward. TEAMtalk reported this week that Icardi has been offered to Everton and would be open to the move, although there had been no advanced talks and no official offer from the club. Olympiacos have now reportedly entered the picture. Reports in Greece claim contact has been made over a possible deal, with a two-year contract said to have been put forward. David Moyes has already confirmed Everton are looking at the free-agent market after the collapse of Folarin Balogun’s deadline-day move left Thierno Barry as his main senior centre-forward. Icardi is one of several experienced strikers to have been linked since the window closed, alongside Anthony Martial and Jordan Ayew. The former Inter Milan and Paris Saint-Germain striker is available without a transfer fee, but there has so far been no indication that Everton’s reported interest has developed into negotiations. If the Olympiacos interest progresses, Everton may soon have to decide whether Icardi is someone they actually want to pursue.
