PREVIEW: SCUNTHORPE v GLASGOW (CAB DIRECT CHAMP P/O S/F) SCUNTHORPE and Glasgow kick off the Cab Direct Championship play-offs with the first leg of what is expected to be a hard-fought semi-final at the Eddie Wright Raceway tonight (Friday). The teams finished third and second respectively in the regular league table, and the two-point difference between them only occurred when the Tigers edged an aggregate point in Heat 15 when they met at Ashfield last week. Friday’s opener sees the onus on the Scorpions to continue their impressive home record by building a lead to take to Scotland for the second leg in a fortnight. Jordan Jenkins again guests for Jacob Hook for the home side, whilst the visitors bring in Tate Zischke and Anze Grmek to replace the retired Kyle Howarth and the injured Mario Hausl. Scunthorpe promoter Rob Godfrey said: “There didn’t seem to be anybody at the start of the season who had us marked down as top four finishers and qualifying for the play-offs – most people thought we’d be bottom – but this team has done us proud and we are now only two good performances away from the Grand Final itself. “There are no targets for the meeting against Glasgow. The boys know that every point counts and we just want to carry on from where we left off against Edinburgh at the EWR last time. “This is a big occasion for not only our club, but the town of Scunthorpe. The more supporters we have inside the Eddie Wright Raceway getting behind the boys, the better, so that we can go up to Glasgow on September 25 in a very healthy position.” Tigers boss Cami Brown said: “It’s fair to say that Scunthorpe have been the surprise team of the season in the Championship. They have been solid all through. “They are especially good around their own track. Yet strangely enough I felt we threw away a great chance to win there in May. “Our performance on Friday to beat the Scorpions by 10 was our best for some time really, so that’s really encouraging. “I feel that the entire team is ready for this. I believe we are in the best form we have been all season right now.
