PICKERING CHASING TITLE No.2 SCUNTHORPE star Josh Pickering says he’s happy to accept the favourite’s tag for the Championship League Riders’ Championship at Sheffield on Saturday. Pickering won the event the last time he competed two years ago when it was staged at Redcar, and this season it takes place on his home Premiership circuit of Sheffield. That ensures him plenty of backing from home fans, in addition to his Tigers’ team-mate Leon Flint, but Pickering insists the venue makes no difference to his attitude. He said: “With my average and the points I’ve scored everywhere this year, without a doubt I’m the out-and out favourite. “I will take that with confidence; no cockiness, just backing my ability. All of us riders, we’ve all got doubt in some way and I know they’re going to have a lot of doubt racing against me. “To be completely honest, it was at any another track in the league I would also feel confident in going there and doing the job also.” One change to the line-up sees Jody Scott come in as Redcar’s representative, as Charles Wright is required in Poland for play-offs.
