DANISH STAR JEPSEN JENSEN SEEKS VOJENS VICTORY SEQUEL AFTER 14 YEARS 11/09/2026 Danish racer Michael Jepsen Jensen would love history to repeat itself as he bids to end a 14-year FIM Speedway Grand Prix victory drought at the Deluxe Homeart FIM Speedway GP of Denmark – Vojens on Saturday. An epic SGP title race approaches its climax as Polish icon Bartosz Zmarzlik leads the standings on 129 points going into the penultimate round as he aims to become the sport’s first-ever seven-time world champion. He faces huge competition from Aussie rival Brady Kurtz in second on 125 and Great Britain star Robert Lambert in third on 119 with two rounds and two sprint races remaining. The series concludes with the DEWALT FIM Speedway GP of Poland – Torun on September 26. All the current top four riders have previously won a Speedway GP in Vojens, with Zmarzlik topping the podium in 2019 and 2022, Lambert winning in 2024 and Kurtz triumphing last year as he came within a point of landing an incredible debut-season Speedway GP World Championship gold. Jepsen Jensen stormed to an unforgettable win as a wild card at the 2012 FIM Nordic Speedway GP in Vojens, blazing past triple Speedway GP world champion Nicki Pedersen with half a lap to go. It was a year that also saw MJJ win the FIM Speedway Under-21 World Championship and the FIM Speedway World Cup with Denmark. But after spending the 2015 season in Speedway GP, the rider largely found himself in the international wilderness for a decade. That was until he stormed back into form when he joined Polish club Grudziadz in 2024, before winning his first Danish Championship last year and requalifying for Speedway GP. Next in the firing line for MJJ is a Speedway GP victory, and after finishing second at Manchester R4, third in Wroclaw and fourth at the rounds in Prague and Lodz, the Danish national team skipper would love to make it happen on the track where he truly burst on the SGP stage 14 years ago. He said: “It would be funny if I could do that again … If Vojens could be the next one. I think I deserve a win soon. I actually thought that in Malilla or Lodz, it should have gone my way. But it didn’t really happen. It must be Vojens now.” Jepsen Jensen is happy with his Speedway GP form, which has seen him reach four finals in eight rounds this season. “Including Vojens last year, I have been in five finals and had two mess-ups, which isn’t that bad,” he said. While he may fall short of a medal with Lambert 31 points clear in third place, MJJ admits there’s only one spot on the podium he is really interested in as he sets his sights on 2027. The 34-year-old said: “For all the riders in the series looking in the mirror, third or fourth place does not make that much of a difference. Of course, a medal is very nice to have, but all of us are there because we want a little bit more than that. “I haven’t felt that I have had a good season so far. We have been playing around with things, so to still be No. 4 in the GPs is not that bad. “I am proud of that. Of course, there are still a lot of things that we need to get used to after I was out of the GPs for many years. The most important thing is to stay in the series for next year and keep building. Then good things can happen. “I just feel that over the last couple of seasons, things have been a little bit better. This year, we have probably been messing about a bit too much. I haven’t felt 100 percent comfortable or good in the same way that I have in the previous seasons. I have a feeling that things can get better or should have been better. “But we are building on things, which is still very positive. Even though I am not the youngest anymore, we are still learning every day. Sometimes you can be a bit too hungry and try too much, which can mess up a few things.” Also flying the Danish flag is Leon Madsen, who is seventh overall on 72 points, occupying the last automatic qualification place for the 2027 Speedway GP series.
