The Pittsburgh Steelers quarterback went after the network again while appearing on Cam Heyward’s Not Just Football podcast, questioning why ESPN has given major attention to some NFL controversies while, in his view, barely addressing the Dianna Russini, Mike Vrabel situation. Aaron Rodgers has already criticized ESPN over the issue before, however, made his frustration clear again with some strong language. The investigation found that Russini failed to disclose the relationship, calling it a violation of the publication’s standards, while also finding no evidence that her reporting on Vrabel or his teams was inaccurate. He is questioning how much attention the network gives certain controversies compared with others. While discussing ESPN on Heyward’s podcast, Rodgers brought up the network’s coverage of San Francisco 49ers owner Jed York before turning back to Russini and Vrabel. “I also said you’re a gutless organization because they haven’t said anything. The review examined 903 stories, 77 videos and 204 podcast episodes from Russini’s time at the outlet. The findings did not conclude what the exact nature of Russini and Vrabel’s relationship was, however, they did determine that the connection should have been disclosed because of the potential conflict of interest. The review also found no inaccuracies in Russini’s reporting involving Vrabel or his teams. That distinction matters because Rodgers’ criticism is aimed more at the media response than at the findings themselves. The veteran QB also questioned whether other information involving NFL insiders and coaches could raise similar concerns. He pointed to situations where reporters have access to coaches, executives and players and wondered how much of that information is shared behind the scenes. Rodgers clearly does not see the issue as settled, and judging by his latest comments on Heyward’s podcast, he plans to keep asking why some NFL stories receive wall-to-wall attention while others barely stay on the screen.
