Roma goalkeeper Mile Svilar believes that the Giallorossi had the better of the game in their 1-1 draw away against Fenerbahce in the Champions League on Thursday evening, and has confidence that he and his teammates will be able to impress in Europe this season in the same way that they have done in the early stages of the Serie A campaign.
Bryan Cristante struck first to send Roma into a first-half lead in Istanbul on Thursday evening, but the Giallorossi were pegged back by a well-taken dink from Archie Brown shortly after the start of the second half.
Svilar reacts to Fenerbahce 1-1 Roma: ‘We had the better game’
Svilar was among Roma’s standout performers on the night, coming up with a decent number of saves to keep the scores level when the Giallorossi came under pressure towards the end of the second half.
Asked which was his most impressive save of the night while speaking to Sky Sport Italia after full-time, he said: “The one-on-one with Muriqi was the most difficult save, I tried to do the same thing when they scored their goal but unfortunately I wasn’t able to stay that little bit taller. But it’s fine, we’ll take the draw and move on.”
Like captain Bryan Cristante, Svilar feels that Roma more than deserved a point from their match against Fenerbahce and says that the Italians were the better of the two teams on the night.
“There was always that feeling that both teams could score. These are proper Champions League games. We had the better game, but a draw is okay if we can show ourselves like we have done over the first few Serie A matches, I think we can get the points.”
