Glendale — Women’s flyweight JJ Aldrich is 4-1 in her last five bouts, and is now coming up on ten years under the UFC banner. That’s been a bit of a quiet run, with Aldrich (15-7) noting that she’s been overlooked somewhat. Especially facing a Mexican opponent in Regina Tarin at Noche UFC this Saturday, where the crowd will no doubt be heavily pro-Tarin. “Accepting the fight, I already knew that ahead of time. So it really doesn’t bother me, maybe it should more, I don’t know,” Aldrich noted during Wednesday’s media day. Speaking with Cageside Press, Aldrich also touched on just what has her firing on all cylinders. “Honestly I think it’s just maturity over the years, not being complacent. Pushing myself. I think the team I have makes sure I do that every single day. They’re on me, if we make mistakes, even after a win we’re getting better after,” stated Aldrich. “Just being more mature and knowing who I am, and just the confidence that comes with that. I don’t have to question as much.” What stands out about Noche UFC opponent Tarin, Aldrich explained, is her youth. “Just her age, honestly. She’s super young, she’s going to come hard the whole time. She’s so young, she don’t know defeat yet. I think that’s probably her biggest attribute, but honestly, 8-0 outside the UFC and 8-0 inside the UFC is really a big difference. She’s super tough.” The experience edge, meanwhile, will be “huge,” Aldrich believes. Whenever a veteran gets offered a young up-and-comer, there’s always the thought that the promotion behind the match-up is using it as a setup fight. That’s something that is an MMA specialty, feeding the old to the young, though Aldrich is far from old. Still, it’s a thought that many have no doubt had with Aldrich vs. Tarin, and one Aldrich noted as well. That said, there was no hesitation in accepting the bout, especially as part of the annual Noche UFC card. “I said yes to the fight before I even heard back from all my coaches, just because it’s Noche. I would never turn that down. So it really doesn’t bother me,” said Aldrich. “I’m here, I want to be the best in the world, and if they feel that’s the best person for me to be the best in the world, then that’s what it is.
