Utilita Bowl to Host Celebration of Red-Ball Cricket in August Red-ball cricket will take centre stage at Utilita Bowl this August as Hampshire celebrates the longest format of the game during its Rothesay County Championship fixture against Yorkshire. The Celebration of Red-Ball Cricket will take place across the opening three days of the match, from Thursday, August 20 to Saturday, August 22. County Championship action will be accompanied by activities highlighting Hampshire’s history, the recreational game and the traditions associated with first-class cricket. Under-16s will receive free admission throughout the celebration, giving families an opportunity to introduce younger supporters to the longer format during the summer holidays. Junior spectators can arrive at the gates without purchasing a ticket. Former Hampshire players will return to Utilita Bowl for live question-and-answer sessions, appearances and other activities. Nic Pothas and Shaun Udal are among the familiar names expected to attend and share stories from their careers. Supporters will also be able to explore the county’s cricketing heritage through historical displays, a commemorative book and a digital tour of the stadium. Visitors will have the opportunity to walk on the pitch and experience areas of the venue from a different perspective. Younger supporters can take part in the Red Ball Activity Trail, visit the Family Fun Zone and enjoy inflatables and children’s games similar to those offered during Hampshire Hawks’ Vitality Blast fixtures. The event will also showcase the different forms of cricket available across the county. Demonstrations involving junior, disability and walking cricket will highlight the opportunities for people of different ages and abilities to participate in the game.
