The vacant position is expected to be filled soon as the BCCI looks to make changes to its medical and support staff. Jain’s position had come under scrutiny amid a worrying run of injuries and fitness concerns involving several India players. He took over as the team’s head physiotherapist in 2022 after replacing Nitin Patel. The decision comes after months of concerns surrounding India’s injury management. The BCCI and team management had previously questioned Jain over repeated breakdowns and an apparent dip in fitness standards. Concerns also emerged over frequent cramps and the fitness of players during the England tour. INDIA’S INJURY CONCERNS REFUSE TO GO AWAY The problems continued into the build-up to the Sri Lanka Tests. Nitish Kumar Reddy was ruled out with a left quadriceps injury, while Harshit Rana was unavailable after returning from a lengthy injury lay-off. Jasprit Bumrah’s fitness was also a major concern, while Sai Sudharsan and Washington Sundar had fitness issues before the series. India finished the two-Test series with a 1-0 victory after the second Test in Colombo ended in a draw. The visitors had looked on course for another win after enforcing the follow-on, but Sri Lanka staged a remarkable final-day fightback led by Sonal Dinusha, who scored his second century of the match. Despite missing several regulars, India found positives in the series, with young players such as Manav Suthar, Devdutt Padikkal and Dhruv Jurel making an impression. The result also kept India fifth in the World Test Championship standings with a 51.52 percentage of points. India now move into a packed white-ball schedule. They are set to face Afghanistan in a three-match T20I series in Delhi from September 13, before turning their attention to the 2026 Asian Games in Japan. India, the defending champions, will begin their Asian Games campaign later in September. With another demanding phase of the season approaching, India will hope that changes to their support staff can help address the recurring fitness problems that have affected squad selection throughout 2026.
