WBC University Advances Preparations for International Boxing Congress in Carrillo, Costa Rica

Carrillo, Guanacaste, Costa Rica — Xochitl Lagarda, Director of WBC University, carried out a strategic agenda in the region as part of the preparations for the International Boxing Congress, scheduled to take place on October 2 and 3, 2026.
The congress will be hosted at the Riu Guanacaste Hotel, offering participants a comprehensive experience that will combine high-level education, fellowship, and valuable networking opportunities at one of the region’s premier resorts.
Director Xochitl Lagarda held meetings with Mayor Diana Méndez Casis and Oliver Ruelas, CEO of Expomedia TV and co-organizer of the event.
The project was also presented during the “Martes de Café” session before WBC President Mauricio Sulaimán, with the goal of strengthening institutional support and showcasing the educational and technical programs that WBC University will offer throughout the congress.

The participation of prominent experts and figures from the world of boxing has already been confirmed, including Dr. Paul Wallace and Dr. Ricardo Monreal, members of the WBC Medical Committee; Cutman Vittorio Starita; renowned trainer Jay Najar “El Panda”; international officials Héctor Afu and Omar Mintum; as well as former world champions Román “Chocolatito” González and Erik “El Terrible” Morales.
The congress is being coordinated in partnership with Fecarbox, under the leadership of President Alberto Guerra and Vice President Bismark Márquez. Their involvement will help bring together leaders from boxing commissions representing 12 countries across Central America and the Caribbean.
The official fight card is still being finalized. The announced program includes two National Championship bouts and two Fecarbox title fights, along with additional bouts currently being prepared and sanctioned by the Costa Rican National Boxing Commission, chaired by Julio Pérez.
The official boxing event associated with the congress will take place at Playa Amor de Temporada in Playa de Cocos.
WBC University will provide a high-level boxing education experience, supported by WBC technicians, officials, and specialists with extensive experience throughout the sport.
The programs are designed for coaches, trainers, officials, and boxing professionals, providing them with specialized knowledge and practical tools to further strengthen their expertise and professional development within the sport.
