Inter boss Cristian Chivu was happy with the way that his side performed during Wednesday’s draw with AC Milan in Perth. The derby between Inter and Milan at Perth’s Optus Stadium ended in a 1-1 draw. After Federico Dimarco’s goal early in the second half, the Rossoneri equalised in the final minutes with a penalty from Christopher Nkunku that he had earned. Despite it being a friendly in name, the game was played with a lot of intensity and even some aggression at times too. There were positives and negatives for Milan, who – by Ruben Amorim’s own admission – have a lot to improve on before the season gets underway. Chivu commented on the match during an interview with Inter TV. It was the second fixture of their summer tour after playing Manchester City, a tour which will conclude on Saturday with the match against Juventus. Milan, meanwhile, now travel to Indonesia to face Chelsea. Regardless of the result, how satisfied are you with the team’s performance? “I see improvement. The guys are putting in a lot of effort, and we’ve been working hard these past few days. Right now, we’re not too concerned about the results of our matches, but we want to do a good job and, above all, improve our fitness. “I’d say some players got some good playing time, and we’re happy with the quality they showed, even though they’re not in top form and their legs aren’t quite there yet.” Unlike the City match, the team seemed to improve as the minutes went by… “We probably struggled a bit at the start of the match to occupy space. We made a few more mistakes in dribbling and coming out of the box. We were a bit rushed in our actions, but the opponents were also skilled and put us under a bit of pressure. “As the minutes went by, we improved, we found more ways to break free, and I’d say we played pretty well.” How much do matches like this help, against opponents you’ll then face in the league? “Right now, our primary concern remains the integrity of the players, their health, and their physical development, respecting the principles of what we’re trying to convey and adding something to what the team has shown it can do over the years.”
