Wakefield Trinity head coach Daryl Powell has named an unchanged 21-man squad for their upcoming clash, but has confirmed a key injury concern over forward Ky Rodwell. Rodwell picked up a shoulder knock during last week’s victory, and Powell admitted the forward will be given right up until kick-off to prove his fitness. When asked about his squad selection, Powell stated: “It’s an unchanged 21, not been too many changes in there. We’ll see how everybody pulls up.” Addressing Rodwell’s fitness directly, Powell added: “Ky picked up a little bit of a shoulder knock last week, so we’ll see how he is. “We’ll give him up until kick-off to sort of see how he is.” Despite taking a late check on Rodwell, Powell firmly rejected the idea of resting core players before the play-offs, asserting that maintaining momentum is vital. “I understand why some teams do it,” Powell explained. “I don’t think it’s great for the game if I’m honest, but it is what it is. “I’ve just all along thought we just want to keep tuned in. I think it’s important that we keep the integrity of the competition.” New recruits impact hailed: Emre Guler & Ned McCormack Powell praised the immediate influence of mid-season addition Emre Guler, while offering insight into the signing of promising outside-back Ned McCormack for next season. On Guler’s impact, Powell said: “He’s fitted in great, a really mature player and person. “He’s got good leg speed, he’s experienced, his skill is good, and he’s a good defender, “He’s had a good impact, you can tell the boys have turned to him already and got a lot of respect for him.” Addressing the future arrival of McCormack, Powell revealed he has tracked the youngster for some time: “I remember watching him play for Halifax when we were in the Championship. “I was like, ‘where’s this kid from?’ Great left footstep, “He’s got good speed, a good attitude for the game, and really good intent. I think he’ll fit in great.” Wakefield Trinity wrap up their regular season campaign away at Leigh Leopards on Friday, September 11, with kick-off scheduled for 8:00pm at the Leigh Sports Village.
