Cristian Chivu insists ‘the results are not as important as the work we’re doing’ after Inter drew 1-1 with Milan, as there are concerns following a Yann Bisseck injury.
The Nerazzurri had the better of the first half in Perth and took the lead through a well-worked move, finished off by Federico Dimarco.
However, a very soft penalty awarded for contact between Carlos Augusto and Christopher Nkunku allowed Milan to secure a 1-1 result in this summer friendly.
Chivu focus on Inter fitness
“I saw improvement, the lads are working hard, and at this moment the results are not as important as the work we’re doing,” Chivu told Inter TV.
“I can say some lads had minutes on the field they needed, and we’re happy with the quality of performance, especially as right now we’re inevitably lacking sharpness.”
Inter’s last friendly match with Manchester City also ended 1-1 in Hong Kong, emerging victorious in a penalty shoot-out.
“We struggled a little at the start to occupy the right spaces, making a few more mistakes playing out from the back and were a bit hasty in some situations, but Milan also caused us problems with their high press,” continued Chivu.
“As time went on, we improved, found the channels out of their press, and I’d say we played pretty well. The main priority right now is the fitness levels of the players, also respecting our tactical principles and adding some extra elements to what the team has shown it can do in recent years.”
There were some concerns in stoppages, as Bisseck received a nasty knock to the back of the head in a collision with Milan defender Pervis Estupinan.
The German international was barely able to stand, even with help from two members of the medical staff, and was substituted.
Bisseck did not participate in the post-match media duties either.
