'I'm sure' - Joel Piroe prediction made by ex-scout after Leeds United boss Daniel Farke's admission
A former Premier League scout has delivered his verdict on Joel Piroe’s Leeds United future
A former Premier League scout believes Leeds United forward Joel Piroe will attract interest before the closure of the summer transfer window.
The 27-year-old was prolific for the Whites in the Championship after sealing a move from Swansea City in the summer of 2023.
However, opportunities have proven limited for the Suriname international since Leeds’ promotion to the Premier League.
After leaving Piroe unused on the bench in the recent friendly win over RB Leipzig, manager Daniel Farke conceded the frontman is still behind Dominic Calvert-Lewin and Lukas Nmecha in the pecking order.
Joel Piroe prediction made
Mick Brown, a former scout for the likes of Sunderland and Blackburn Rovers, is suprised Piroe is still on the books at Elland Road.
He told Football Insider: “To be honest, I'm surprised Piroe hasn't already left Leeds this summer. It's obvious he's not going to be part of their plans next season, and Farke has pretty much confirmed that after he came out and explained that he is behind other players in the pecking order.
“It's strange to hear a manager come out and directly say that a player is not involved because he's way down the pecking order, and to me it all but confirms they want to sell him.
“Clubs have been interested in Piroe in the past because, aside from his [recent] time at Leeds, he has shown he can score goals, and there are no shortage of clubs in need of a goalscorer.
“Which clubs might come in for him, I'm not sure, but there will be those looking and keeping a close eye on his situation.
"Now that it looks like he will be leaving Leeds, I'm sure somebody will be ready to come forward with an offer to take him away and give him a fresh start elsewhere.”
Joel Piroe’s stance
The likes of Middlesbrough and Rangers have been previously linked with Piroe, but there could be an obstacle for interested parties to overcome.
Piroe himself wants to stay and fight for his place in the Premier League, as he outlined in an interview last month.
He said: “I just want to prove myself with Leeds in the Premier League. I had a little bit of the feeling that I didn't want to run away from the challenge [in the winter transfer window].
“If the start is not going as I want it to, then after just half a season to run away from the challenge, that didn't feel right as well. I thought to myself, 'why run away after half a season when you have not experienced like a full season in the Premier League?'. I still see my future there.”
