Kuala Lumpur, Sept 10 (Bernama) -- The Wushu Federation of Malaysia (WFM) is targeting the national wushu squad to secure two medals at the Aichi-Nagoya Asian Games, which will take place from September 19 to October 4. WFM President Datuk Chong Kim Fatt said without specifying the colour of the medal, the target takes into account the current assessment of the national athletes' performance during training in China, which has given his side the confidence to set a two-medal target for the games. "So far we set a target of one medal, but after making an assessment, we expect we might be able to get two medals. We will try our best for Malaysia," he said when met after a visit by Malaysia's Deputy Chefs de Mission (CDM), Mohamad Azlan Iskandar and Syaidatul Afifah Badrul Hamidi, to the national wushu training camp today. Meanwhile, Kim Fatt said the national squad is currently in top condition and ready to compete in the quadrennial games after undergoing a two-month training stint in China, alongside continuous monitoring by the management and coaches. "Even though they underwent training for two months in China, we held online discussions almost every week, including twice a week with the team manager. "Our team this time can be said to consist of 50 percent new faces and 50 percent experienced faces. We hope there are one or two events with the potential to win medals," he said.
