Dave Portnoy rips Patriots for ‘disgusting’ loss to Seahawks

The New England Patriots started off their NFL season in the worst way possible with a Week 1 loss to the Seattle Seahawks that left Barstool Sports founder and notorious Patriots fan Dave Portnoy disgusted. The Patriots had a 10-0 lead in the third quarter as the Seahawks struggled to find their way without quarterback Sam Darnold, who left the game for good after the very first drive because of a hip injury. But the Seahawks managed to hang around thanks to their defense and a few field goals and a big play from Jaxon Smith-Njigba helped Seattle overcome the 10-point deficit to emerge victorious. MORE: The good and not so good from Seahawks’ win over Patriots After the game, Portnoy took to X to express his dismay with the Patriots’ loss. “Only the first game of the season but that was tough to watch,” Portnoy said. “Horrible game from Drake (Maye), that last throw… disgusting. We lose A.J. Brown with what I guess is gonna be a pretty severe injury. The other guy, new guy, (Romeo) Doubs, just a disgusting drop. “Play-calling sucked most of the night I thought on offense. The game was right there for the taking obviously. It’s only Week 1 but that was a s***** way to start the season. Gotta be a lot better than that. That was F-minus s***.” Drake Maye’s brutal mistake Maye had a terrible game but still had a chance to win it or simply force overtime in the final minute of the contest. However, he made an awful decision on a throw into the end zone that was picked off, which wrecked New England’s chances of extending the game. In all, Maye threw three picks and has now tossed a total of five in his last two games against the Seahawks, who clearly have his number. A.J. Brown’s injury A.J. Brown’s first contest with the Patriots did not go well. Not only did he finish with just three catches for 26 yards, he also exited the game in the third quarter with an ankle injury. While Portnoy said it could be a severe injury for Brown, there has been nothing to confirm that is the case, so we’ll have to wait and see how that unfolds. The Patriots will look to bounce back in Week 2 against the Pittsburgh Steelers, but there’s at least a chance they will have to do so without their No. 1 wide receiver. — Enjoy free coverage of the top news & trending stories with The Big Lead Newsletter —
