Darnold suffered the injury during Seattle's first drive, a five-play, 30-yard march, when he was sacked on third down by Dre'Mont Jones. Trainers did not initially attend to the QB on the sideline, but he went to the blue tent during New England's opening possession, and Lock was getting ready while Darnold limped to the locker room as Seattle's offense took the field for a second time. Darnold was 1 of 2 for 13 yards before sustaining the injury with the Seahawks and Pats knotted at 0. Although Lock attempted just three passes last year for the champion Seahawks, he did start two games and make four appearances for Seattle in 2023, going 1-1 with 543 passing yards, three touchdowns, three interceptions and a 63.2 completion percentage.
