Former ESPN NFL broadcaster Ron Jaworski has decided to cut back on his broadcasting work, announcing that he is leaving NBC Sports Philadelphia’s Eagles pre- and postgame coverage after four seasons. “I have decided it is time to cut back on my broadcast work and have made the decision not to return,” the 75-year-old said in a statement released on social media. Before that, he spent 27 years at ESPN as a mainstay of their NFL coverage, most notably on the Monday Night Football booth for five seasons, before being laid off in 2017. Jaworski was hired by NBC Sports Philadelphia in 2022 to help fill the void left by Ray Didinger’s retirement and the departure of former Eagles defender Seth Joyner. Prior to that, Jaworski spent 27 years at ESPN as an announcer and analyst, including a five-year stint on Monday Night Football. Post-ESPN, a move to the Philadelphia market made all the sense in the world for Jaworski, who quarterbacked the Eagles to their first Super Bowl appearance in 1980. Jaws spent 15 years in the NFL, and his 99-yard touchdown pass to Mike Quick remains tied for the longest in NFL history. “There are certain people in this business who are irreplaceable, and Jaws is one of those people,” said Alexandra Matcham, the vice president of content for NBC Sports Philadelphia. “You don’t replace a person who was a pioneer in the NFL broadcast world, and we have no intention of doing so.” According to the Philadelphia Inquirer’s Rob Tornoe, NBC Sports Philadelphia isn’t planning to fill the former Eagles quarterback’s seat on the show. Michael Barkann will return as host, joined by Barrett Brooks, Reuben Frank, and former Eagles wide receiver Jason Avant.
