Chiefs OT Josh Simmons unlikely to play Monday against Broncos KANSAS CITY, Mo. (WIBW) - Star quarterback Patrick Mahomes seems likely to play in the Kansas City Chiefs season opener on Monday, Sept. 14 against the Denver Broncos. Starting left tackle Josh Simmons does not. “Listen, there’s a good chance Josh doesn’t play this week,” Chiefs head coach Andy Reid told reporters on Tuesday. ‘That’s where we’re at.” Simmons missed a handful of games during his rookie season in 2025 due to personal reasons. The 2025 first round pick out of Ohio State was slated for an important sophomore NFL season. “Tm not putting any time restraint on when he can come back,” Reid added. “I just want to make sure he’s healthy and okay to go.” Kahlil Benson, an undrafted free agent from Indiana, is likely to start in Simmons’ absence.
