Wednesday morning, the Carolina Hurricanes announced the re-signings of three restricted free agents. Returning to the organization following the organization’s Stanley Cup Championship are forwards Skyler Brind’Amour and Justin Robidas, as well as goaltender Cayden Primeau – who will undoubtedly serve as the third man up for the Hurricanes’ crease. Interestingly, all three players are the sons of former NHLers, with Primeau being the son of Keith Primeau, Brind’Amour of course being the son of the Hurricanes’ head coach Rod Brind’Amour, and Robidas being the son of Stephane Robidas. Two of those – Primeau and Brind’Amour – are the sons of former Hurricanes captains, who were ironically swapped for each other during a trade between the Hurricanes and Philadelphia Flyers in January 2000, bringing Brind’Amour to Raleigh and sending Primeau to the City of Brotherly Love. Cayden Primeau Signs Two-Year Contract Primeau, who is 27-years-old, is entering his eighth year in professional hockey, following a season where he helped the Chicago Wolves reach the Calder Cup Final, backstopping 18 postseason games with an impressive .913 save percentage and 2.72 goals against average. He also spent 39 games with the Wolves in the regular season, posting a .916 SV% and 2.41 GAA after he was claimed back off waivers following the Toronto Maple Leafs’ snatching of him when the Hurricanes placed him on the wire ahead of last season’s start. His new contract runs through the 2027-28 season, and will pay him $850k for the first season, and $975k for the second. Hurricanes Bring Robidas, Brind’Amour Back on One-Year Contracts Meanwhile, Robidas, who is just 23-years-old and serves as an alternate captain, has continued to prove to be an impressive, tenacious prospect with speed and a desire to score any way possible. Just last season, he ranked second on the Wolves’ roster in goals (23), assists (37), and points (60), while leading the team in shots on goal (191), shorthanded goals (2), and plus/minus (+20) despite playing just 58 games. Additionally, he has also scored three points (1G, 2A) in four games with the Hurricanes. His one-year, two way contract will pay him $850k on the NHL level, or $100k on the AHL level, with a guarantee of at least $125k. Lastly, Brind’Amour, who is also 27-years-old, has spent the past two seasons with the Wolves, registering 32 goals and 26 assists for 58 points total in both regular seasons. In four games with the Hurricanes during both seasons, he has a goal. His one-year, two way contract will pay him $850k on the NHL level, or $125k on the AHL level, with a guarantee of at least $225k.
