8 Rangers transfer headlines as striker and right back hunt intensifies and £4.5m man close to the exit The Ibrox club have plenty of irons in the fire but Derek McInnes will want to see action The brutal nature of football was evident on Tuesday as Rangers received results of a scan showing the horror extent of Youssef Chermiti’s knee injury. Just 48 hours earlier the Ibrox side had rejected a club record £22million bid from Galatasaray for the man they signed from Everton just 12 months earlier. Potentially holding out for even more cash to more than double what they paid for the Portuguese frontman which would have enabled them to reinvest in the squad, they have now lost that chance – and need to dip into the coffers for a replacement. It’s a double whammy for Rangers at the worst possible time after a three-game winless start to the season under new boss Derek McInnes and there was further bad news with Tuur Rommens also facing up to a couple of months on the sidelines. It never rains but it pours. McInnes must feel his dream job has turned into a nightmare ahead of a crucial spell as he aims to turnaround a 2-1 first leg deficit against Polish side Jagiellonia Bialystok in the Europa League followed by Sunday’s Premier Sports Cup clash against holders St Mirren at Ibrox. Chairman Andrew Cavenagh predicted up to five new signings would arrive but that might need to increase with the Chermiti news, unless McInnes is forced to promote from within the squad to fill the void. Here, Record Sport rounds up some of the latest speculation: Hugo Siquet This was a name that really excited the fans and a right back with the quality to fill the void left by long-serving James Tavernier but Club Brugge have no interest in selling despite the player’s reported desire to make the move. Siquet has been described as a player in the mould of Trent Alexander-Arnold and McInnes is clearly in the market for a right back with Ross McCrorie and Dujon Sterling his only options so far. Couhaib Driouech At least this is one piece of positive news as the former PSV Eindhoven winger is set to be announced after completing his medical in Manchester. The £7m man is the quality McInnes craves. Kosta Nedeljkovic Record Sport exclusively revealed on Sunday that the £8m Aston Villa right back is a loan target for Rangers and if all efforts to land Hugo Siquet fail then they could step that up. Ryan One The former Hamilton Accies striker was the first name linked in the hours after the Chermiti injury news. Currently at Sheffield United and on loan at Lincoln City last season, it certainly wasn’t a name that excited fans - to put it mildly - and they might be able to relax given the Rangers Review say the Ibrox side “aren't pursuing a move” for the frontman. Bojan Miovski This could be an interesting one. The North Macedonia international only joined last summer for an initial fee of £2.6m but failed to produce the form that saw him light up the Premiership with Aberdeen, earning him a big money move to Girona. Seems to be out of the picture under McInnes as he watched from the stand on Sunday as Chermiti picked up his injury - but could that force him to play a more prominent role this season? Jayden Meghoma This link is one that is fuelling fans’ accusations that the recruitment team at Ibrox aren’t casting their net wide enough. The 20-year-old was on loan from Brentford last season and with the news that Rommens is set to be on the sidelines with a groin injury, he is back on the radar to fill in. James Penrice The former Partick Thistle, Livingston and Hearts left back was already being targeted before news of Rommens’ injury. Talks have been ongoing with AEK Athens over a loan with an option to buy but the Greeks are reportedly pushing for a permanent deal. It’s likely be one of Meghoma or Penrice - or another - but a left back is needed, although they do have the extremely highly-rated Ashton Scally but injury has kept the younger out of pre-season. Mohamed Diomande The Ivorian is on the brink of a £4.5 million move to newly-promoted Turkish league side Corum where he will join up with former Scottish Premiership rival Alexandros Kyziridis who has mad the move from Hearts.
